My Safe FL Home Program

Receive up to $10,000 for a New Roof!

The My Safe Florida Home program was created to strengthen Florida homes against hurricanes and save Florida homeowners money. This program provides homeowners with up to $10,000 in grant money for “home strengthening” improvements including roofing such as:

  • Reinforce Roof-to-Wall Connections
  • Install Secondary Water Resistance for the Roof
  • Upgrade Roof Covering
  • Improve the Strength of Roof Deck Attachments

By taking advantage of this program:

  • You may be eligible to apply for a Matching grant where for every $1 you provide, the state will provide $2 toward the actual cost of an authorized mitigation project (or 2/3s of the project cost up to $10,000).
  • You can also potentially lower your home insurance premiums by participating in the program and making home improvements.

If your inspection report contains a recommendation to add a Secondary Water-Resistant Barrier (SWR), then you may use program funds to replace your roof. Work with your contractor and local building officials to determine the best SWR product for your home, and that the selected product will pass local building code inspections.

You do not need to do all of the listed improvments on your inspection report. We suggest performing the least-costly improvement that will give your home the most protection. However, you should perform what you can afford.

An owner of a site-built, single-family, residential house or townhouse may apply for and receive an inspection without any further obligation to apply for a grant.

When recommended by a hurricane mitigation inspection, grants may be used for the following improvements:
